The Learning Commons
——Learning,Collaboration,Communication and Innovation
SUFE Library Information Sharing Space is positioned as Learning Commons. It is located on the 7 floor of the north library building and the 5 floor of the south building, covering an area of 4006 square meters. Learning commons consists of seven functional areas, namely, Seminar and Conference Area, Presentation Area, Support Service Area, Peer Learning Area, International Communication Area, Multimedia Learning Area and Self-study Commons.
Learning Commons is a learning-centered platform to support collaborative and interactive learning, based on information technology and equipment. The learning Commons provides a one-stop service for users in learning, communication and research activities, It is a community of promoting readers' learning, collaboration, communication and innovation.
1.Self-study Commons
The Self-study Commons is the only area supporting quiet learning. The whole space has simple colours and a quiet environment, with 120 self-study seats. The desks are equipped with desk lamps and power supplies, while wireless network and delivery boxes are provided. There are leisure sofas and casual dining areas around the space, where students can relax and adjust after studying. The self-study seats in this space are managed by reservation, creating a new paradigm for library seats management.
2. Seminar & Conference Area
Seminar Room: Three meeting rooms can be merged by two or three of them, with high brightness projector, screens, sound and other equipment. The space can accommodate about 120 people at most; can be used for video conferencing, training, lectures, seminars, symposiums and so on.
Group Study Room : The 12 group study rooms are located on the east side of the 7th floors and can be booked on line or site reservation. They can be used for group research, study, exercise and discussion. Some of the rooms are equipped with all-in-one machine or electronic whiteboards. Online booking supports 7 days in advance (including the day of reservation), and requires mutual reservation of more than 3 people, and no more than 4 hours per use.
3. Presentation Area
Vibrant Island : An octagonal open area, with the function of stage performances, large-scale academic reports, exhibitions, lectures and other multi-function uses.
4. Support Service Area
Boya Room:Provide reading salon, guest reception, library culture exhibition, etc.
Learning Commons’Information Desk: Provide appointment management, device lending, reader consultation, etc.
Casual Dining Area: Provide self-service coffee machine, rest, salon, social venues.
5. Peer Learning Area
Peer Learning Area support group discussion with sound. There is Chess Area on the 2nd floor where Chinese Chess and Go can be played. It also provide display and experience of new technology equipment, such as e-readers, body sense game machine, etc. Also, there is Masterwork Area. Readers can read and borrow masterworks recommended by our school here.
6. International Communication Area
Global Village : Support Salon, workshop and foreign language learning, provide readers with a place to conduct international communication activities.
7. Multimedia Learning Area
Multimedia Studio: Total 8 multimedia studios, provide image and video producing, edited and processed.
Movie Room: Provide film and television appreciation, can regularly screening learning video.
Digital Leisure Space: Support digital entertainment, with headphones to enjoy audio and video, including the library area of self-service music experience.
