“To settle down needs to study first, and studying is on the basis of reading.” As the core place for college students to read，and the second classroom of general education in colleges and universities, over the years, the library has made great efforts to build a Enjoy Reading brand, through lectures, book fairs, solicit articles, recitations, read, scrapbook, movies, workshops, interactive experiences, book recommendations, theme salons, humanities walking and other forms of reading promotion activities. The mission of the library reading promotion work is “committed to promoting and tutoring students' extracurricular reading activities”, advocating the majority of students to enhance reading and creating a strong atmosphere to promote reading culture on campus and accumulate the humanistic spirit of the university.
On New Year's Day 2020, our university first brought out the Recommended Books for General Education of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics in 2020, aiming at encouraging students to read more books and read good books to nurture reading habits and improve self-cultivation. In order to strengthen the atmosphere of campus classic Yue reading to create and cultural immersion, the library organized and perfected the listed books in the Recommended Books for General Education of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics in 2020, both the paper and electronic version. At the same time, based on the recommended list, the library is carrying out activities such as Essay contest of “Reading cultural classics and drawing literary campus”, classic reading, and scrapbook contest to encourage students to read classic works in depth and enrich ideological edification sentiment.
